  1. yeah….he is so right…..at least have a live cd around somewhere……mac os is sort of a linux distro….and it rocks…..guess what i am using……

    linux+mac os = the gods

  2. Riiiiiight, I don’t think geek-ness has anything to do with what OS you use… I’m quite a geek myself, just on a slightly different area of computing than you are.

I could say this: “a real geek knows how to use IOS and plays old games!”

    right…

  3. I have tried a number of different linux distros, but never really meshed well with them, and being an avid Day of Defeat:Source player, and windows programmer, i find myself coming back to xp every time, and because i’m not only a geek, but a lazy student too i like things that work with the minimal amount of effort, which at the moment for me is XP.

Once i finish my degree and get a bit of money behind me i plan to build a webserver which i wouldnt imagine running anything but linux on it, its jsut for a gaming machine windows fits the bill nicely.

When they are both freely availbe, you dont have to stick to linux or windows, just choose the one which is best for you at the time.

  4. I’m currently using Ubuntu Breezy (5.10) for educational purposes, just to get into the whole Linux thing and I must say it meshes quite well with me :P
Gnome is about as easy to learn as Windows, it’s just the CLI that I still need to pay a lot of attention too :P

  5. Swiecki, I think that you mean that a lot less commercial software comes out for linux, you should see the freeware/open source scene for any linux distribution, or other open source OS for that matter.

  6. not fast enough for me lol. i have a dual core 3800+ with 1gb RAM. anyone know where to get some 1gb ddr2 ram from -CHEAP???
