Just woke up and realised that i have 7 days to finish my three reports so this blog might have to take a bit of a backseat for a week.

Getting my hair cut today so expect a poseriffic picture on flickr if i like it!

Still have a stinking cold which is slowly moving to my chest, not good. If i get a chest infection, which i normally do i could be out of action for a week or more. Damn Asthma!

Over on GeekLimit.com we got our first days stats in, 8700 visits and 13700 page views yesterday… WOW! I'm also informed that we have about 260 people subscribe via RSS, thanks very much to everyone whos been reading and commenting on it, we have another authors starting today: Comaboy and should have Leeanna from Geekplus and Kai from CC19.co.uk starting at the weekend.

Off to a good start

GeekLimit.com has been alive for about half a day now, we've got about 6 posts and had some good feedback. I'm currently fighting with the WordPress rich text editor to get the XHTML and CSS to validate better but it keeps changing my code back when i hit save ;(

I've also got the first lot of stats in (we get daily stats rather than constantly updated ones) and they are looking pretty good at about 300 for the first day. Had an issue with the feed but its sorted out now too.

Talking of stats i just noticed that this blog ticked over the 300,000 mark today! 

I've got a horrible cold at the moment and feeling pretty crappy but it gives me a chance to blog lots so its not all bad :)

I've taken to posting one new picture on Flickr a day, choosing my best and only putting that one up, seems to get me more comments and views on them that way.

I've been playing with photoshop again, this time tweaking the standard filters to get different effects on the nano picture, looking pretty sweet i think.

Summer Pictures

Its incredibly sunny out today, so i went out to the garden and took a few photos. You can even see the moon in the sky today. We've planned a beach trip for sunday, hopefully it will stay this nice until October :P

Its already been for days of my easter break and i haven't done anything much constructive at all.

I'm definatly improving on DOD, if anyone wants to play just let me know, you can find me on the steam friends network as Atariboy feel free to add me. I hear there is a new gameplay mode coming by the end of the month as well, cant wait to see what that is like.

I'm slowly reinstalling things at the moment and looking for Open-source alternatives to as much as possible. I think i've only cracked 2 programs so far, any suggestions for good Open-source software is very welcome, I'm currently looking for a good alternative to Nero 6 for burning DVDs and ISOs, and a free Alcohol style program as well for mounting cd images.

I'm in a strange place with free/paid software. The really good stuff like Photoshop and Illustrator deserve to be paid for, but i dont have anywhere near enough for what they charge, and many free programs dont seem to be worth paying for them.

I'm happy to give out small programs like my servo controller for free, Visual Assembly on the other hand will not be free, i'm still working on it adding to it and improving it, unfortunately the Uni owns 70% of the intellectual rights to it because I made it due to being at Uni, and it was designed for them anyway. I may produce an offshoot of it which i can call my own and develop it as a more general Assembly IDE.

Took a few pictures in town today, I'm starting to feel a little limited by my camera, mainly with the lack of optical zoom and limited exposure settings, I'm thinking of getting a new camera with my student loan, although i feel a bit n00bish of what functions i want/need. Any tips or links appreciated.

Triple Screens

I'm thinking of setting up three screens on my open day display to make it stand out, so i stole mikes screen and put in a pci graphics card and hooked it up. Initially the third screen (PCI card) didnt work, but after a quick google i found that all that you need to do is set the PCI card as primary in the BIOS. Then using Ultramon i set it up to give an extra wide desktop.

 

 

 

 

As you can see the third monitor wasnt as good as my other 2 and so the resolutions are different giving a big black bit, although you dont see this on the screen, all the windows are just bigger on the third, older screen.

If you have the money and are planning something like this i cant stress enough that you get 3 identical monitors, it would make everything so much easier, and if you can get 3 TFTs then your desk would thank you as well.

Ultramon is the ONLY software you need for Dual or triple or up to 10 screens, as well as wallpapers and screensavers to stretch across your whole desktop.

I’ve been so so busy, so no full blog today, but here is something i made in my spare few moments this evening in Illustrator. I dont know it very well, but i’ve been getting on really great with photoshop this week so i thought i would give it go.

Atariboy Logo Competition Relaunch

With one week to go until the deadline for the Logo competition closes i thought i would update everyone with the some changes and details.

I dont want Atari Logos, i’m sorry i didnt say this before, but i didnt realise it until every entry had an Atari logo on it, i dont want to worry about getting sued!

I’m looking for an icon/picture/visual representation similar to the firefox and songbird logos. Almost imagine it as a desktop icon for program called Atariboy.

 

Something like these popular ones is what im looking for. There is no need to include the name atariboy as i have the logo at the top with that in. I’m looking for a picture now.
